RCEC provides workshop and co-presentation at IAEA conference in Mexico City

From 2 to 7 October, the 47th edition of the International Association for Educational Assessment (IAEA) annual conference will take place.

This year, the conference is being organised by Anáhuac University in Mexico City. With the central theme: “Contributions of Assessment to Quality Education“, the conference contributes in a purposeful way to helping achieve Sustainable Development Goal No. 4 of the United Nations: “Inclusive, equitable and quality education for all.”

The IAEA is a worldwide platform for professionals involved in all forms of educational testing in primary and secondary schools, colleges and workplaces. Examination organisations, university departments, research organisations and government institutions from more than 50 countries on all continents are members of the IAEA. The IAEA’s central objective is to support institutions in the development and correct application of educational tests in order to improve the quality of education. The IAEA believes that international cooperation, while preserving its own cultural autonomy is the best way to promote progress in our field. RCEC warmly supports this mission and is therefore a proud and active Affiliate Institutional Member of the IAEA.

For the 47th edition of the IAEA conference, RCEC has again been selected by the conference committee to provide a pre-conference workshop. This is an honourable follow-up to our previous contribution in 2019 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

On Sunday afternoon, October 2, Arnold Brouwer will conduct this 2.5-hour workshop entitled: “Performing a Test and Item Analysis of Exam Results Using the Open-source Statistical Software R.” The workshop starts with a short introduction to Classical Test Theory and Test and Item Analysis. Next, the participants analyse dichotomous and polytomous scored exam items and interpret the analysis results. For this purpose, the participants make use of an application developed by RCEC in the open source software R.

Later that week, RCEC and the State Examination Center of Azerbaijan (SEC) will co-present on the audit RCEC was asked to conduct for SEC in the year 2021. The co-presentation is titled: “Assuring the Quality of Examination Organisations. A Case Study about the RCEC Audit of the State Examination Center of the Republic of Azerbaijan.” Vali Huseyn, Head of Strategic Partnerships SEC plus IAEA Board Member and Arnold Brouwer, Director RCEC, will illustrate what the RCEC audit of the SEC examination organisation looked like, how it was prepared and how it was jointly carried out. Specific attention will be given to the recommendations made during the audit and the way SEC has dealt with them.

We look forward to the conference, to seeing our professional colleagues again and to exchanging experiences and suggestions with the participants, gathered from 50 different countries.
